Shooting Day in London – Behind the Scenes at Retro Revival

About a special shooting day.

The English version of this Blogpost you find here: the making of a photoshoot.

“How did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” Dr. Seuss.

A month is over, since I the revival retro boutique visited in London. A month passed as in flight. The pictures of our former shoots have found all their place in the online shop. It is a wonderful feeling to see the results and to know that I can present this fashion to the customers from all over the world.

I am sometimes asked how such a shoot actually expire day. Here I show you a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes and the history of images that you can now find on the website of retro revival.

Each shooting day is an adventure

Such a photo shoot every time feels like a little adventure. People come together, which usually have never worked. Each of them holds an important role on this day, and all have the same goal in mind: to create the best vintage styles and authentic sceneries .

Such shooting days I enjoy much – the excited and busy foraging bustle between outfit changes, all the different characters that I can embody during a day, the chatter and get to know take shape during hair and make up, and of course all of the fun and the fooling around between shots.

And this shooting was day a very special. Not only, because I am a German blogger, the great had the opportunity to travel to work in the British capital . The chemistry between us was so consistent that the joint work was absolutely enjoyable.

But first: A chaotic arrival in London

In my last post about our great acquaintance in the revival retro boutique I told a little of the magic shop and the great lady, has all this under their care: Rowena Howie. Who enters the store, feels enter immediately so welcome as you would your own living room.

Rowena sprayed a lot of positive energy, and so one day with her can be just varied and fun. You can feel great passion and love for their work in everything she does.

On the preparations of the shoot, I must mention that I only previously arrived at night in London. To be exact, my flight had all five hours late, and so I was lying until morning to five in the bed. The way from Stansted Airport to accommodation in the city feels know London like a trip around the world, and accordingly this also took. A shoot is usually very long and exhausting day, you want to be obviously very fresh and rested .

It was added that I had things like that happen always at the best time – an accident with the gear shortly before my trip -. This brought a bone break me in the knee, which day and night hurt. These circumstances and the fact that I would work with people that I knew only from the Internet, made me incredibly nervous.

I was very concerned whether I could really work that me happy were all – especially I myself.

The shooting day

Let’s get some hair and make-up done!

The one thing, the pictures are perfect, which is chemistry behind the camera.

I had a fresh fracture, three hours of sleep, and yet the most wonderful shooting day! Simply because the people with whom I could work together, were completely fantastic.

The preparations of make-up and hairstyle are, of course, the first before a shoot. The styling can take in Up to two hours or even more. My hair is very thick, so the makeup artist at my needs quite a lot of patience until all sections of hair are curled and ready for styling.

The stylist is a person with whom one has during a shooting spends much time and enough opportunities for sharing and chatter.

Adrianna was responsible on this day for hair and makeup, and at first we had a wire to each other as though we knew us for years. Whether now dealt with books Pottern in our discussions our kittens or the love of Harry – when a day begins with such sympathetic person, nothing can go wrong.

The rain…

Around the shooting, Rowena has developed a small, sweet story. It shows a lady that enjoys a beautiful autumn day in London , before she handle makes for an glamorous event in the evening . Each of the locations was close to the boutique, so we could always there return to wearing the next outfits and to prepare the next setting.

The first location was a lovingly crafted flower shop. Our photographer Tory (which by the way is a very nice English acronym for “Victoria”) shot many pictures the first time – also me as a final photo is selected at the end remains a mystery often!

The weather was slightly rainy day, making it particularly difficult for the stylist to keep the hairstyle in the eye. Here you can see the result from the flower shop. I love the way corresponds to the green dress with the colors of the plants.

Afterwards, we visited a small park, also in the vicinity. Look at the beautiful outfit that Rowena put together for this place! The journal dress, the cozy knit Cardigan and the Blue Coat seem like made for each other.

I am pleased that the ladies made many pictures behind the scenes. They illustrate once again how much joy at our common work we had. I really enjoyed every minute of the day and it greatly appreciated that I could be the one that strolled through the beautiful streets of London, to shoot photos with them.

After the Park was the small coffee shop on the set, you could see in the introduction above. Coincidentally am not only I, but also the revival lovers retro ladies absolute coffee, and so we used the time to raise our level of caffeine there immediately.

In the book lover’s paradise

Rowena has a great feel, what’s the perfect location. A place I found very impressive was the magic book store. Treadwell’s books specializes in mysticism, magic and occultism. This esoteric shop is truly unique in decor and atmosphere. Who enters this place is immediately enveloped by a scent of incense.

It offers all the things that any other book store simply not found in herbs in magical instruments to hundreds books on Freemasonry, Alchemy, magic, or Druids Treadwell.

The spiritual atmosphere of the shop had rekindled my fascination, and under other circumstances I would have spent there still some hours with Browse.

Preparations for a glamorous night

The grand finale of our shoots was located in a very exclusive hotel in Bloomsbury place, a few streets from the retro boutique. Adrianna conjured up a more stunning hairstyle at the end and I was able to slip into two glamorous evening clothes.

Both pieces are very elastic and fit beautifully to the body shape, they are really comfortable to wear so – contrary to the outer impression -!

While it was slowly dark, we held the last looks for the camera. To do this I got the steps of the apartment up and down, while Tory took my movements. The final image I find beautiful.

How did it get so late so soon?

Around nine in the evening, we had succeeded. Tired, but very happy I left this shoot. At the beginning of the post, I told you that the circumstances for me were not particularly rosy. But in the end it is what counts: the motivation and passion, with each individual for the target works.

If you like with people working together, if it is then you and the what you do appreciatethe common day a success. All no matter, how was your night, or how much the body hurts.

A shooting day needs lots of love and patience. I enjoy always particularly the moment in which I get to face the results for the first time. And then I remember the great day, which is based on these recordings.

I can tell you, Dr. Seuss, how it got so late so soon! Because you spent your time the best way you could: happy.
