After I already kidnapped you on Tuesday in the 30s , it continues today with my 70s look. On the subject of the 70s, I immediately fall into very stereotypical percussions, plate breaks and ABBA. This decade was characterized by social and political upheaval, which was reflected in fashion. Today I would like to show you my interpretation of a 70s look.
Hairstyle & Fashion Of The 70s
On the theme of the 1970s one thinks immediately of Flower Power and colorful, unusual clothes.Jackets, big lapel and cuffs, but also ethnic embroidery and large sunglasses and belts were announced. The women wore their hair long and smoothly with a middle crest or a Farrah Fawcett lion’s mane, in men were beards and sideburns.
In addition to the Flower-Power Trend, further stylistic trends developed. With the advent of Disco as a music genre in the mid-70s, the Disco style became popular and was the first pure club and dance fashion, which was rather unsuitable for everyday life. Films such as Saturday Night Fever (1977) underlined this feeling of life and in the disco glittered (eg in his hautegen Catsuit) with the disco ball around the bet.
The military look had the peace movement as a background. Bundeswehrparka with a sewn peace sign or the Palestinian cloth were not missing here.
While the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were in the 60s, the Glam Rock was a new style of music, which of course also reflected fashion. Films such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” or the glam rock art figure “Ziggy Stardust” by David Bowie expressed this feeling of life. Glam Rock was characterized by glittering and shrill clothing and the play with gender roles and futuristic, androgynous aesthetics. The Glam Rock was replaced by punk rock, which had its origins in London and New York.
Abstract Styles Of The 70s:
Flower Power in the hippies: pantyhose, big lapel, cuffs, ethnic embroidery, large sunglasses and belt
Women: Long hair, middle crest, lion’s mane like Farrah Fawcett
Men: beards, sideburns
Disco style: club and dance fashion, hauenge catsuits, metallic colors, platform shoes
Military Look: Bundeswehrparka, Peace Patch, Palestinian Science
Glam Rock: Glittering and shrill clothing, androgynous looks, futuristic aesthetics
Punkrock: Iroquois, check pattern, rivets, leather
Make-Up Of The 70s
Now I wondered, of course, which look I should make for the time travel from such a colorful and stylistically versatile decade. I tried first on a Ziggy Stardust inspired glam rock look and then had the feeling that I missed the topic but I missed a second look that turned out to be quite unspectacular. In the seventies, there was a shrill disco look. Naturalness.
The women renounced the bright, flawless complexions of the past decades and preferred a natural look. Sunburned skin was in and you were happy with bronzer (which I did without my look).During the day, the eye make-up was very natural, but in the evening it could be colorful and shimmering. Blue and green eyeshadows were particularly popular. Bright, shimmering colors were applied under the eyebrows to make the eyes look even taller. The eyelashes could not be long enough and in the evening was lent with false eyelashes. In the 70s the eyes were the focus of the make-up, the lips were made in bright and natural colors, I have grasped a pink lip gloss. But also a bright, shimmering lipstick was gladly used.
Summary 70s Makeup:
Sunburned skin with bronzer
Natural eye make-up during the day, colorful and shimmering in the evening
Blue and green eye shadow
Bright, shimmering colors under the brows
Long eyelashes, false eyelashes
Lips in natural and bright colors
